Heroes: A Lost Love

Tick Tock, Tick Tock. No, this isn't the sound of Syler's mind at work, but rather my patience with the writing/acting on NBC's Heroes.

What was once an entertaining show is nearing the end of it's life cycle. The writers have begun to blatantly rehash themes from other hits shows like LOST and PRISON BREAK while maintaining a lack of depth to characters that leaves me without care as to their fate.

Honestly I had a feeling this season was going to be awful when the Superbowl ad aired this month. Jerry Rice + Warren Sapp + John Elway??? After watching the Heroes characters throw around the ol' pigskin with NFL greats it was apparent that the shows creators had put this thing on auto-pilot. The whole promo was just silly.

Maybe that's the problem with Heroes. In it's attempt to constantly seek out a broader and more lucrative audience it remains almost schizophrenic. Is this is a campy show about super people with cool powers, or a serious commentary about the best and worst in humanity?

I'm sad to say that after just two episodes of this current season I've got about one more 45 min session of Heroes before I call it quits. The love just isn't there for a show that can't be honest about what it wants to be.
